POSITION  OVERVIEW

AJ+ is looking for a seasoned Senior Producer to join our Explainers team, In Context, and help us take our content to the next level. We're looking for journalists who have done this before – asking the big, complex questions and unpacking the answer for the audience in a way that is fun, super creative, engaging but still deeply informative. This senior role also requires clear leadership potential. Not just a journalist who can create engaging visual explainers, but someone who can help inspire and nurture less-experienced producers on the team. In Context often works with tight deadlines and quick turnarounds, so the role requires someone who can work quickly, think on their feet, has a creative eye and can remain calm under stress. You will not only be producing content yourself - this includes pitching, researching, scripting, interviewing and finding visuals - but will also be helping the Executive Producer oversee production. With the guidance of AJ+s senior editorial leadership, you'll help create in-depth, hard-hitting and exciting video explainers for a diverse audience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Producer works under the Executive Producer for Explainers, and will be responsible for producing explainers from start to finish

Taking the lead on new initiatives developed by the team and the EP

Assisting with fact‐checking stories, maintaining consistencies in workflows, and regular housekeeping

Initiating and maintaining partnerships linked to AJ+ content

Coordinating with planning, audience development, and data teams

Conceiving, pitching, and executing story ideas

Following AJ+ editorial guidelines and ethics

Ensuring that AJ+ content is consistent with goals

The Senior Producer may act as Executive Producer when the EP is not available

rEQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor degree or relevant experience

Minimum of 5 years' experience in an editorial position

Fluency in English

Previous experience in hosting on camera is a strong asset

Proven experience in video production or online journalism

Proven experience mentoring less experienced producers

Outstanding ability to scrutinize and edit the work of other producers

Outstanding writing and video scripting ability

Outstanding ability to write concise and accurate journalistic headlines and summaries

A clear understanding of AJ+ editorial identity and the style of our content

Sound editorial judgment on a range of global issues

A strong grasp of newsroom workflows and operations

Sound communication abilities
